Our Pillars

TECHNICAL R&D

Innovation, Research & Development

We support the research and development of leading technical solutions in the HETV Drama and Film industry. We work with manufacturers, technical solution providers, and research institutions such as the Royal Academy of Engineering to develop and test cameras, stabilisation systems, drones, exoskeletons, ethical AI tools, and virtual production solutions. We are advocating for the integration of Arts with traditional STEM & Engineering.

PRODUCTION SIMULATIONS
Creating Industry Conditions for Learners

We create high-pressure, production simulations which meet industry’s highest technical standards which provide real world environments for technical testing, professional upskilling, and hands-on on-set training. These simulations mirror the working conditions of professional productions, allowing crew members across all levels and departments to gain practical experience in camera, grip, lighting, sound, DIT, production, and more. Our simulations also support the testing and integration of new technologies, ensuring crew members and industry professionals are equipped with emerging industry solutions and workflows.

SOCIAL IMPACT FILMS

Preserving The Art Form

Futures in Film CIC is committed to preserving the rich legacy of socially impactful filmmaking crafted by Ken Loach, Shane Meadows, Sir Steve McQueen, and other visionary directors. We are supporting the UK independent film sector by developing projects that address pressing social issues, providing filmmakers with mentorship, production support, and connecting those coming through to the industry network for further support. Through our programs, creatives can build professional credits, ensuring that independent storytelling remains at the heart of British contribution through film and continues to influence policy, public discourse, and cultural representation.

INDUSTRY x ACADEMIA

Aligning Academic Learning to Industry Standards

We work with universities, colleges, and research institutions to ensure that education remains in line with the highest technical standards and align with industry practices. By developing technical modules, short courses, refresher courses for industry professionals and production bootcamps, we help students and industry professionals to acquire the technical skills needed to support long term careers in film and TV industries. Our partnerships and collaborations with industry bodies such as the BSC, ACO, GBCT amongst others ensure that training and knowledge of cinematography, camera, lighting, sound, DIT, virtual production among other departments is understood and respected by those coming through academic institutions and those that are coming through the industry network.

BRIDGING GAPS
Championing Inclusivity & Representation

We actively support talent from underrepresented backgrounds, including faith communities with a focus on women coming from the Abrahamic faith groups through our Screen Sisters initiative. We are working with neurodivergent talent and organisations to help overcome some of the challenges faced by both the talent and employers. We are providing support to selected cohorts from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds placements on fully funded training programmes and also support with accommodation in London to help them gain industry insight and experience to address the social mobility challenges for those living outside of Greater London. Through tailored mentorship programs, structured training, and career placement initiatives, we are ensuring that diverse voices are represented both behind the camera and on screen. Our Faith Charter via Screen Sisters, and regional outreach programs are designed to create a more accessible, inclusive, and equitable film industry for this and future generations.

"We need the long-term thinking and investment in the future that this project represents.”

Gavin Finney BSC Cinematographer & Former BSC President

It was a fully professional shoot. The way they handled the equipment, the way they approached the process—I was shocked at their ability level.

Rupert Hornstein ACO First AC

The Futures in Film initiative is really amazing. It has been able to take Academia, take Industry and really bridge them together.

Apparently we had reached a great height in the atmosphere, for the sky was a dead black, and the stars had ceased.
